Conditions related to your pet’s skin, fur and nails are issues that veterinary hospitals like ours see quite regularly. In addition to this, skin issues can actually be symptoms of other underlying diseases your pet may be suffering from. Fear not! Because your Central Animal Hospital team is here to help! Simply call us right away at 250-376-7208 so we can treat issues as quickly as possible, and help your pet feel great all their days!

What are the signs of skin problems in pets?

We strongly suggest that you contact us right away if you notice any of the following symptoms: excess dryness, open sores, bleeding, bald spots, shedding and discoloration. Abnormal acts or habits like excess scratching, licking or even biting of their own skin or limbs is a sign that your furry family member may be in pain.

What are the causes of skin conditions in pets?

Irritants, allergic reactions, parasite infections, undiagnosed health conditions and more can all cause skin conditions in your pet. Did you know that pets can even get sunburn if they spend too much time out in the sun, especially on beaches or pools.

What kinds of treatments are available to address skin issues in pets?

Treatment options will really depend on your pet’s specific case. Some therapies the veterinarian may prescribe are topical creams, oral medications, antihistamines, antibiotics, injections and laser treatments. A prescription diet can also be recommended by your veterinarian, which can work to help maximize the effects of other treatments.
